US economy added 172K jobs in May, far exceeding Wall Street expectations

The unemployment rate for May remained at 4.3%.

The U.S. economy added 172,000 non-farm jobs in May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Friday.

The gains far exceeded Dow Jones expectations of 80,000 new jobs, according to CNBC.com

The unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%, as expected.
