Construction on Trump's triumphal arch could begin in as little as two weeks
The authorization comes in advance of a National Capital Planning Commission meeting, where the arch is expected to get final approval, scheduled for Nov. 5.
Construction on President Donald Trump's 250-foot triumphal arch could begin as soon as Nov. 5, according to a new court filing submitted on Wednesday.
The Trump administration told U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington that they expect the Interior Department will issue a final decision authorizing the project, NBC News reported.
The authorization comes in advance of a National Capital Planning Commission meeting, where the arch is expected to get final approval, scheduled for Nov. 5. Construction could begin the same day, if all goes as expected.
Chutkan had required the Trump administration to provide at least 14 days' notice before any construction was to begin.
The project would be located at Memorial Circle and Columbia Island between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. It would feature a 166-foot mezzanine and 24-foot observation level, with a 60-foot statue of Lady Liberty on top.
