Trump praises supporter for allegedly punching protester at South Carolina rally: 'That was great'
The punch prompted Trump to compare the attendee, who has not been identified, to former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield, who attended the rally.
President Donald Trump praised one of his supporters Wednesday night at a rally in South Carolina, for allegedly punching a rowdy protester who was disrupting the event, stating the action was "great."
Footage of the incident does not capture the punch itself, but does show security escorting a protester out. Several other protesters were also removed from the venue for disrupting the event, according to the Guardian.
The punch prompted Trump to compare the attendee, who has not been identified, to former heavyweight boxing champion Evander Holyfield, who attended the rally.
“That was great, man. Wow. Man, I loved that,” the president said. “Who’s the guy that threw the punch? You know, you reminded me of Evander, 'the Real Deal,' Holyfield. You gotta give them credit. It takes courage to do that.”
The incident was not the first time that a Trump rally was disrupted by protesters. The president has accused demonstrators who frequently crash his events of being paid for by Democrats.
The disruption occurred while the president is making campaign stops in multiple states this week to boost Republican candidates ahead of the November midterms. Trump was promoting South Carolina Sen. Darline Graham on Wednesday.
