President Donald Trump-endorsed candidate Mike Mazzei narrowly won the Republican nomination for Oklahoma governor on Tuesday night, defeating Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

Mazzei and Drummond advanced to a runoff in June and are seeking to replace Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, who is restricted by term limits and cannot seek reelection. Mazzei will face Democrat Cyndi Munson in November.

The Republican secured the nomination with a razor-thin 50.3% of the vote, compared to Drummond's 49.7%, according to the Associated Press, which called the race at 11 p.m. Eastern. Just 2,000 votes separated the candidates.

Trump endorsed Mazzei, a former state senator, after he advanced to the runoff and blasted Drummond as a "fake Republican." 

"MAGA Warrior Mike Mazzei is running for Governor in Oklahoma, where I was the only president to win all 77 Counties in three straight elections," Trump said at the time. "Additionally, I won more votes than any Candidate in the State’s History! I love Oklahoma, and Mike has my complete and total endorsement for Governor."
