Trump-backed Ashley Hinson wins Republican nomination for Senate in Iowa
Hinson is running to replace Republican Sen. Joni Ernst, who announced last year that she was not seeking reelection in order to focus on her family.
Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson won the Republican primary for Senate Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press, defeating former Iowa state Sen. Jim Carlin for the nomination.
Hinson is running to replace Republican Sen. Joni Ernst, who announced last year that she was not seeking reelection in order to focus on her family.
President Donald Trump endorsed Hinson last year, stating that he knew her well and that she has "done well" for Iowa and is already working hard to help pass his America's First agenda.
"Ashley Hinson will be an outstanding Senator, and has my Complete and Total Endorsement – SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN," he added at the time.
Hinson is just the latest of Trump's candidates to win their respective Republican primaries. She will face Democrat Josh Turek in November.
