Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary resigned Tuesday after 13 months in the position.

His departure reportedly came at the behest of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., according to Politico, citing an "administration official."

Kyle Diamantas, who was previously the agency's top food official, will lead the FDA in an acting capacity, the official also reportedly said.

Markary's tenure had been tumultuous amid controversies over abortion drugs, vape approvals, and the Make America Healthy Again movement more generally.

Reports of his imminent departure came days ahead of the resignation.
