Talarico weighs in on Dem House primary, hoping to stop Galindo
His endorsement comes as Garcia's opponent faces accusations of antisemitism for recent remarks.
Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico has weighed in on a contentious House primary in a bid to prevent a candidate who suggested putting Zionists in camps from becoming the party nominee.
Talarico this week endorsed Johnny Garcia in the race, saying "Garcia knows how to fight for working Texans because he is a working Texan, and his battle-tested leadership is exactly what’s needed in Congress," according to CNN.
His endorsement comes as Garcia's opponent faces accusations of antisemitism for recent remarks.
Maureen Galindo, a sex therapist, is seeking the Democratic nomination to represent the state's 35th congressional district. She recently attracted bipartisan scrutiny for saying she would turn an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center "into a prison for American Zionists and former ICE officers for human trafficking."
She also suggested that many Zionists were pedophiles. Zionism refers to support for the establishment of a Jewish state in the Levant and the preservation of the state of Israel. Pro-Zionist groups insist that opposition to the movement is antisemitism, though that assertion is the subject of debate.
Galindo, for her part, denies that her comments were antisemitic and insists she would also imprison non-Jewish Zionists.
