Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to discuss an array of security issues amid tensions between the Ukrainian leader and President Donald Trump.

The pair both publicly commented on their discussions, saying they had clarified the situation.

Trump has expressed frustration with Zelensky over his continued targeting of Russian energy facilities after he brokered a deal with Moscow to inject diesel fuel into global markets. Ukrainian officials, in recent days, have accused the Trump administration of ordering the withholding of intelligence about Russian strikes to punish Kyiv, which the administration has denied.

"I spoke with Marco Rubio, and it was a substantive conversation – focused on the issues that matter," Zelensky posted on X. "I am grateful for his readiness to help and his clear position. First, ballistic missile interceptors, which are needed to protect lives."

"Second, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, which is vital. Third, the situation with Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored," he added. "Of course, all of this comes against the backdrop of our diplomatic efforts to end this horrific war and the constant killing of people. We agreed to get in touch again soon for an update."

Rubio, for his part, spoke to reporters to address Ukrainian claims that the U.S. had withdrawn intelligence support, resulting in successful Russian strikes on Ukrainian targets.

The secretary denied that the administration had ordered any withholding of intelligence and said that the failure of the warning system had been a "technical" issue.
