7th Memphis police officer disciplined in Tyre Nichols death
Three EMTs have also been fired over the confrontation.
The Memphis Police Department said a seventh police officer has been relieved of duty in connection to the death of Tyre Nichols while additional charges are still developing in the case.
The seventh officer remains unnamed, The Associated Press reported Tuesday. The department announced the previous day that another officer, Preston Hemphill, was relieved of duty, but not fired, days after Nichols' arrest on Jan. 7. Hemphill's attorney argues that his client was not present when Nichols was beaten by the other officers.
Nichols died three days after the encounter and five former officers have been charged with murder for their involvement. Three EMTs have also been fired over the confrontation.
"There are numerous charges still developing that are impending," the department said Monday.
