Criminology Ph.D student Bryan Kohberger was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury in Latah County for the home invasion murders of four University of Idaho students.

A new arraignment has been scheduled next week for May 22, at 9 a.m., Fox News reports.

With this indictment, Kohberger will not be able to counter the evidence used for his arrest at a preliminary hearing that had been scheduled for June 26.

This also spares the two survivors who were in the house, as well as potential witnesses from having to testify under cross-examination before the trial.

Last year, Kohberger was arrested at his parents' house in eastern Pennsylvania and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 13 deaths of students Kaylee Goncalves, Maddie Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.

Kohberger was a criminal justice student at Washington State University.
