Convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante captured
"Cavalcante will be placed back behind bars for the rest of his life," state Sen. Katie Muth said.
Police have captured convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante after he escaped from prison in Chester County, Pennsylvania, roughly two weeks ago, the Pennsylvania State Police said Wednesday morning.
The state police confirmed the capture at about 8:25 a.m. ET.
The agency scheduled a press conference for 9:30 a.m.
The manhunt became more intense over roughly the past 24 hours, after authorities learned Cavalcante had a stolen rifle in his possession, forcing the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown to close Tuesday.
Cavalcante, 34, escaped Aug. 31 from a Pennsylvania prison yard shortly after he was convicted of killing his former girlfriend, Deborah Brandao, by stabbing her dozens of times in the presence of her two young children.
Additionally, Cavalcante had a warrant for his arrest in his native country of Brazil for an alleged murder in 2017 at the time that Brandao was murdered.
"Cavalcante will be placed back behind bars for the rest of his life," state Sen. Katie Muth said on Facebook.
