Former Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders lineman Kevin Johnson was found dead at a homeless encampment in Los Angeles, with his death being investigated as a homicide.

Johnson, 55, was found dead Wednesday, Newsweek reported.

Authorities discovered Johnson's body at a homeless encampment in the unincorporated Willowbrook area near South Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Coroner determined that Johnson died as a result of blunt-force stab wounds.

"Unfortunately it appears he was homeless," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Steve De Jong told the media outlet. "It looks like he was probably living there."

Johnson was the New England Patriots' fourth-round pick in the 1993 draft, but never played a game for them. In 1995, he joined the Eagles, and stayed with them for two seasons. Johnson then joined the Raiders in 1997, playing 15 games.

He spent the 1998 and 1999 seasons with the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, then ended his career with playing for the Los Angeles Avengers in 2001.
