Four people died when their car struck a tree on a rural road in southeast Alabama.

The crash occurred late Friday night, WTVY-TV reported. Alabama investigators said Saturday that the driver, Tykevious D. Russaw, 27, of Eufaula, was trying to elude police. The car left the roadway and struck a tree.

Two passengers who were not wearing seat belts were ejected from the vehicle. A third person wasn't ejected but died at the scene. Russaw was also fatally injured.

He had previously been arrested for weapons and drug violations, court records show.
