Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde says supporting crime doesn't win over voters

Georgia GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde says that supporting crime doesn't win over voters and that bipartisanship, when it comes to dealing with criminals, is coming along on Capitol Hill.

"Crime doesn't win with their voters," Clyde said on the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "But we're seeing better leadership. Under Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats were in lockstep because she threatened them. That's not the way we Republicans work, and we want to bring good legislation forward."

Clyde said that he is currently working on a bipartisan crime bill that will work to keep more police officers in Washington, D.C. since the city has lost so many. 

"I've got another bill coming up that deals with the police department because the DC Council has had a temporary bill in place for two years now to reimagine the police department, and they wanted to make it permanent," he stated. "We're going to take that bill down as well, because as a result of their policies, they have lost over 1,100 police officers. That's almost 1,200 in the last two years."

"You can't control crime when you don't have law enforcement officers," Clyde concluded.

He said that there is bipartisan support for dealing with crime on Capitol Hill. 

"The Democrats have come on board with us and with my bill, I had 33 of them cross the aisle in the Senate," he said. "Thirty-three of them crossed the aisle and voted with us because it's good legislation. We do the right thing because it's the right thing to do for the country, and then just see what happens."
