An Illinois man is facing charges following an investigation into an alleged plot to carry out a mass shooting that may have targeted a Hindu place of worship, according to police.

Alexandros Paporakis, 19, of Palatine, was arrested Sunday after the Palatine Police Department received information from another police department about a possible mass shooting being planned in the Palatine, ABC News reported, citing a statement from the Palatine Police Department.

The Mount Prospect Police Department had received a tip from an individual who reported receiving "concerning electronic communications" from Paporakis, police said.

Paporakis had shared a document that allegedly laid out a plan for a mass shooting, including images depicting a rifle, rifle magazines, body armor and other tactical equipment, authorities said.

Officers from the Palatine and Mount Prospect police departments took Paporakis into custody as he was leaving his residence, where they recovered a rifle, multiple loaded rifle magazines, hundreds of additional rounds of rifle ammunition, tactical equipment and other items during a search.

Information gathered during the investigation suggests that the Paporakis was planning to target a Hindu place of worship in the Aurora area, though police said that the specific planned location has not been confirmed.
