Investigation still ongoing into Brown shooting, no updates: Providence mayor
Authorities have not identified the person of interest, nor have they stated if the person apprehended was the shooter.
Providence, R.I., Mayor Brett Smiley on Sunday told the public that the ongoing investigation into the Brown University shooting had encountered no roadblocks, but that there were no updates to make public.
Two students were killed and nine more sustained injuries during the Saturday shooting. Authorities previously announced that they had detained a person of interest.
Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez confirmed that they were not searching another individual and that the person in custody was in their 30s, the Associated Press reported.
"It's clear that our community is still in shock and hurting," Smiley said, urging members of the community to take advantage of community response resources the city had to offer.
