Justice Department says former ABC News reporter arrested on child porn charges
Journalist facing up to 20 years in prison
Former ABC News reporter James Meek was arrested this week on child pornography charges, the Justice Department said on Wednesday.
Meek was arrested in Virginia on Tuesday "on criminal charges related to his alleged transportation of images depicting the sexual abuse of children," the DOJ said in a news release.
Federal officials had raided Meek's home in April of last year, seizing "multiple devices that allegedly contained evidence of the transportation of images of child sexual abuse."
Court documents indicate that the seized devices "allegedly contained images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct."
The journalist, who resigned from ABC News after the April raid, "is charged with transportation of child pornography," the DOJ said, adding: "If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison."
