Kim Potter, ex-Minnesota officer convicted of manslaughter of Dante Wright, released from prison
Potter will live in Wisconsin and remain on supervised release until Dec. 21.;
Kim Potter, the former Minnesota police officer who was convicted of second-degree manslaughter for the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright, was released from prison, records show.
Potter, who was sentenced to two years in prison in 2021, served 16 months behind bars before she was freed Monday at 4 a.m., "out of an abundance of caution" for her safety, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
She spent 26 years in law enforcement until she resigned from the Brooklyn Center Police Department two days after the fatal shooting of Wright during a traffic stop on April 11, 2021.
Potter's defense attorneys said she thought she was pulling out her taser to stop Wright, who was pulling away with an officer partially in his car.
The shooting, which sparked several days of protests, occurred during the trial of former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin, who was convicted of killing George Floyd.
Potter will live in Wisconsin and remain on supervised release until Dec. 21, according to The Associated Press.
