At least one person is dead and nearly a dozen have been injured in a shooting event in Midland, Texas, city officials said. 

The suspect is barricaded inside a building, NewsWest 9 reported. 

Midland Police Chief Greg Snow said that officers heard gunfire from inside the building and cleared the area. Armored units have been deployed, and police are working to bring the standoff to a safe resolution. 

Midland Memorial Hospital, which is near the building where the standoff is happening, was put on lockdown, but it's since been lifted.
