At least three people are dead, including the suspected gunman, and seven more are injured after a shooting Monday morning in a south St. Louis high school, officials said.

The suspect is dead after exchanging gunfire with officers who responded to the incident at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School, St. Louis Police Commissioner Mike Sack said. Authorities later identified the gunman as 19-year-old Orlando Harris, a former attendee of the school, per the New York Post. Harris graduated in 2021 and it remains unclear if he was acquainted with those whom he shot.

The two deceased victims have been identified as an adult woman who died at a local hospital and a teenage girl who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Seven others were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Sack said there are "hundreds of others" who are victims and "Everyone who survived here is going to take home trauma."
