A man who was charged with the homicide of a Nashville restaurant owner is believed to be an illegal migrant, according to authorities.

Ulises Raigoza Martinez, 29, was charged in the death of Matt Carney, who is the owner of Smokin Thighs, a restaurant located in Nashville, Tennessee.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told The Daily Wire that they were going to be interviewing Martinez about his immigration status.

According to the outlet, Martinez was involved in a deadly hit-and-run that resulted in Carney losing his life.

Authorities said that Carney was trying to stop Martinez and another individual from stealing from his car. It ended in them striking Carney with a car and driving off.

After spending two weeks in the hospital, he passed away earlier this month.

Martinez's partner in the alleged crime was a Mexican national here illegally with a long rap sheet. He has previously been deported four times. Both men were apprehended.

Martinez is currently being held in the Davidson County jail and will face a judge next week.
