Alabama guard dies after police apprehend her and escaped murder suspect
At least one weapon was found in their crashed vehicle.
Alabama corrections officer Vicky White died Monday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following an elaborate manhunt for her and escaped murder suspect Casey White that saw police apprehend both fugitives.
The duo was apprehended in Evansville, Ind., on Monday during a pursuit by U.S. Marshals after fleeing the Lauderdale County detention facility on April 29, FOX 6 reporter Jonathan Hardison observed.
The Whites crashed their truck during a pursuit, and while Casey is in custody, Vicky was treated for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at a hospital. She died several hours later, and the coroner's office is conducting a death investigation, Hardison said.
At least one weapon was found in the truck. The sheriff confirmed law enforcement did not fire shots at the fleeing couple and that Vicky White shot herself during the pursuit.

"We got a dangerous man off the streets today, he's never gonna see the light of day again, and that's a good thing," Singleton said.
