Manhunt underway after Missouri man kills police officer, injures another
Schools in the area were close amid a reported standoff between police and the alleged shooter.
A manhunt is underway Monday in Missouri for the man who alleged shot two police officers – killing one and wounded another, officials say.
The incident occurred Sunday night at a gas station in Hermann, Missouri.
The suspect has been identified as Kenneth Lee Simpson.
Simpson is believed to have fatally shot Hermann Police Department Detective Sgt. Mason Griffith. The officer he allegedly wounded has yet to be identified.
Simpson allegedly fled on foot or in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The suspect may be involved in a standoff with police officers, local news outlet Fox 2 Now reported.
Law enforcement has surrounded a home in Hermann since early Monday morning.
Shortly after midnight, gunshots and broken glass were heard from the second floor as an official used a bullhorn to say: "Come out with your hands up and nothing will happen to you," according to news reports.
Some area schools are not in session Monday as a result of the standoff.
