Massive cocaine bust found floating off coast of Florida Keys
Huge drug stash turned over to Border Patrol
A major bust of cocaine was found floating off the coast of the Florida Keys this week, one of several recent surprise drug discoveries near those islands.
"Approximately 33.7 kilograms or 74 pounds of cocaine was found by a fisherman about 15 miles offshore and south of Sugarloaf Key Wednesday afternoon," the Monroe County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook on Friday.
The huge stash was promptly reported to authorities, who retrieved it and surrendered it to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Numerous drug shipments have been discovered floating near the Keys this year, including many dozens of pounds of marijuana as well as other cocaine stashes.
