Memphis block party shooting leaves 2 dead, 6 injured
The cause of the shooting is unclear, and no suspects were in custody as of Saturday evening.
A shooting at a Tennessee block party left two people dead and six others injured, the Memphis Police Department said.
Police responded to the shooting shortly before 7:30 p.m. local time on Saturday and discovered two men deceased on the scene, police said. An additional six people were also injured, including one person who is in critical condition and one who has since been released from the hospital, according to officials.
Up to 300 people were at the block party when at least two people opened fire, Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis said, according to CNN.
The cause of the shooting is unclear, and no suspects were in custody as of Saturday evening.
Police initially reported that 16 people were injured but revised that number to eight after a follow-up investigation.
"We believe the error occurred with several victims being reported multiple times," police said on X, formerly Twitter.
The shooting is still under investigation.
