Murder suspect captured after escaping Pennsylvania prison more than a week ago
Officials have not said whether he will face additional charges related to the escape.
Police confirmed they captured fugitive murder suspect Michael Charles Burnham, an Army veteran and survivalist, after he escaped from a Pennsylvania county prison more than a week ago.
Burnham escaped from the Warren County Prison on July 6, and he was captured Saturday in Warren County, Pennsylvania State Police said Sunday.
He was taken into custody after a resident of Conewango Township reported that a suspicious individual was on their property shortly before 4 p.m. local time Saturday. State police and law enforcement created a large perimeter and captured Burnham before 6 p.m.
"Burham appeared fatigued, was still wearing his prison pants, but he was not armed. No troopers were injured during the capture," state police said. "The investigation continues into whether anyone helped Burham to escape the prison or provided any assistance to him while he was on the run. Anyone found to have aided Burham will be charged accordingly."
Burnham was being held on kidnapping and other related charges and is also a suspect in a New York rape and murder, according to Fox News.
Police said he was able to escape July 6 through the jail gym's rooftop, where he climbed down with a rope he made out of bed sheets. Officials have not said whether he will face additional charges related to the escape.
