Police: 17-year-old Florida student charged with felony after violent assault of teacher
Teacher allegedly took suspect’s Nintendo Switch away from him in class.
Police in Florida this week said a 17-year-old student had been hit with a felony charge after allegedly violently assaulting a teacher when she took away his Nintendo Switch.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that it had responded to a call at Matanzas High School to discover “a female paraprofessional on the ground with severe injuries after an unprovoked attack by a male student.”
The student suspected of carrying out the attack was subsequently arrested and eventually turned over to the state’s Department of Juvenile Justice; he has since been charged with felony aggravated battery with bodily harm, the sheriff’s department said.
County Sheriff RIck Staly said in the Facebook post that the attack was “absolutely horrendous and completely uncalled for.”
“We hope the victim will be able to recover, both mentally and physically, from this incident,” he said.
