Law enforcement in California this week are investigating a brutal massacre in the town of Goshen that claimed the lives of half a dozen people, including a 17-year-old mother and her 6-month-old infant, as part of what may be cartel-linked violence.

The Tulare County Sheriff's Department said in a Facebook post that they found "six total victims" at the small Goshen home when responding to early-morning reports of gunfire.

"The victims include a 17-year-old mother and her six-month-old baby," the department said.

"Detectives believe there are at least two suspects and this is not a random act of violence," the sheriff's department said.. "It appears this family was targeted and there are gang associations involved, as well as potential drug investigations."

Goshen is located around halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, a little over 100 miles from the Pacific coast.
