Police investigate abandoned car in connection to murder of four University of Idaho students

Law enforcement in Moscow, Idaho, confirmed Tuesday that they are investigating a white Hyundai Elantra discovered abandoned in Eugene, Oregon, in connection to the murders of four University of Idaho students last month.

A spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department said Moscow police have been sent information about the damaged Hyundai. "We have no information to indicate it is related to the Moscow, Idaho, case," the Eugene official said, Fox News reported. "However, they were sent the vehicle information so they have it to review."

Eugene, which is the location of the University of Oregon, is about 450 miles from Moscow. 

Police released a stock photo earlier this month of the car that they said was in the "immediate area" when Ethan Chapin, 20, Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, were killed. 

Moscow police said Monday they "remain interested in speaking with the occupant(s) of a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra" as they "believe the occupant(s) of this vehicle may have critical information to share regarding this case." 

Police said no suspects are in custody and no murder weapon has been located. More than 100 federal, state and local officials are assisting in the investigation and poring through about 10,000 tips.
