Police report details violence, child endangerment in alleged July 4 parade shooter’s childhood

The parents of the alleged July 4 Chicago-area mass shooter reportedly assaulted each other and drank heavily during his childhood, newly released police reports show.

Alleged shooter Robert Crimo III’s mother also confessed at one point to leaving her son in a hot car for nearly half an hour, pleading guilty to child endangerment in the 2002 incident. 

The police reports show a chaotic and apparently violent family life for the alleged shooter, one which involved multiple visits by police for reported family violence. 

In at least two instances, police were called to the family’s Highland Park home after Denise Pesina allegedly struck her husband with a shoe and a screwdriver on two different occasions. 

In total, police "were called to the family’s Highland Park home at least nine times between 2010 and 2014 for various domestic violence incidents," the New York Post reports. 

Crimo III has allegedly confessed to the July 4 shooting in which eight people so far have died.
