Delaware police are searching for at least one suspect after three people were shot and five others were injured in Newark's Christiana Mall.
Delaware State Police responded to the shooting at the mall's food court shortly before 7 p.m. ET Saturday evening, officials said. The three gunshot victims were transported to the hospital and are in stable condition. The five other injured individuals were also transported to the hospital for treatment.
Officials said it is unclear how many suspects were involved.
"The incident is determined to be a result of an altercation between several suspects and at least one of the victims. This remains an active and ongoing investigation," the state police said.
One of the gunshot victims, Jim Harmon, told local outlet Action News that he was waiting for his food when the altercation started.
"We heard like seven or eight shots, 'Bam! Bam! Bam!'" Harmon said. "Everybody started running."
