Rep. Brian Babin says he thinks Laken Riley's murderer should have gotten the death penalty

"The blood is not only on the murderer's hands, but also on the hands of those who have opened our borders up and allowed people like this creep to come into our midst," Babin said.

Congressman Brian Babin, R-Texas, said that the illegal migrant who murdered Georgia nursing student Laken Riley should have gotten the death penalty.

"This man is a murderer, a convicted murderer now," Babin said on the "Furthermore with Amanda Head" podcast. "I wish there would have been a capital punishment for this one because if anybody ever deserved it, it was him."

On Wednesday, Jose Ibarra was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being found guilty of murdering Riley.

He was convicted on three counts of felony murder, one count of malice murder, one count of kidnapping with bodily injury, one count of aggravated assault with intent to rape and one “peeping Tom" count.

"The blood is not only on the murderer's hands, but also on the hands of those who have opened our borders up and allowed people like this creep to come into our midst," Babin said.

Many Republican lawmakers have been critical of President Joe Biden's policies regarding the southern border, often citing statistics about how many people are crossing the border daily.

"On the fifth, Tuesday, we've got a new commander in chief coming in that will close these borders," Babin said. "He has vowed to deport the millions that have come in, starting with all of the criminals."
