Progressive Democrat Rep. Cori Bush's car hit by gunfire in the St. Louis area

The congresswoman was not in the car at the time of the shooting and was not injured

Missouri Rep. Cori Bush's car was hit by gunfire last weekend, according to recent news report.

The progressive Democrat was not in the vehicle at the time and was not injured during the incident.

According to a local news report, nearby vehicles had been tampered with near the time of the shooting and no evidence suggests neither Bush nor her car was targeted.

"Like far too many of us in St. Louis, experiencing gun violence is all too familiar," Bush told NBC affiliate "5 On Your Side." "Thankfully no one was harmed. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul.

"No one should have to fear for their safety here in St. Louis and that is exactly why our movement is working every day to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep every neighborhood safe."

Bush became Missouri's first black female congressional representative when she was elected in 2020, ousting longtime fellow Democrat Rep. Bill "Lacy" Clay.

She has fast become known as one of the House Democratic Conference's most progressive-mined members, advocating for far-left stances on such issues as criminal justice reform and evictions.
