New York subway shooting suspect Frank James faces a terrorism charge after 10 people were shot Tuesday in an attack.

The 62-year-old James has been charged with committing a terrorist attack on a transportation system, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.

James is in custody after he called Crime Stoppers on himself Wednesday morning before going on a stroll through East Villiage, The New York Post reported.

"A call came into Crime Stoppers," a law enforcement source told the Post about the bizarre moment James called himself in. "The guy says, 'You know I think you’re looking for me. I’m seeing my picture all over the news and I’ll be around this McDonalds.'"

When the unit responded to James' call, they saw he was not at that McDonald's. They drove around, found the suspect and took him into custody.

The district attorney's office said that they are "prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that: On April 12, 2022, in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, in the Eastern District of New York, the defendant Frank James did knowingly and without lawful authority and permission commit an act, including the use of a dangerous weapon, with the intent to cause death and serious bodily injury to passengers and MTA employees on the New York City subway system."

Law enforcement said they found a Glock 17 9 mm, 3 extended Glock-type magazines, 33 discharged shell casings, a hatchet and multiple smoke grenades, among other things, at the scene of the incident.

"The government will prove, among other things, that James traveled across a state line in order to commit the offense and transported materials across a state line in aid of the commission of the offense," the prosecutor's office stressed.
