Suspect in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders in custody, authorities say
Suffolk and state police are currently on the scene at First Avenue in Massapequa Park.
Law enforcement officials said Friday that a suspect in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders in Long Island, New York, is in custody.
The suspect is 59-year-old Rex Heuermann, according to the New York Post.
Multiple reports have told News 12 Long Island that Heuermann was arrested by Suffolk County police.
Suffolk and state police are currently on the scene at First Avenue in Massapequa Park in New York.
The remains of 11 people found between 2010 and 2011 have long stumped investigators, and the story inspired a Netflix film titled "Lost Girls."
Many of the women who were killed had been sex workers, and most of the bodies were found near Gilgo Beach.
