Suspect in deaths of 4 women dies in apparent suicide, Memphis police say
Law enforcement identified the suspect as 52-year-old Mavis Christian Jr.
The man suspected of fatally shooting four women, including a teenager, and critically injuring another teenager, was found dead early Sunday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Memphis police said.
Tennessee police launched a search after finding a woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound shortly before 9:30 p.m. local time Saturday at a home in southern Memphis, officials said. Police determined that the same suspect was involved in two other recent shooting scenes, one in which a woman was killed and another in which two women were killed and one was critically injured.
Law enforcement identified the suspect as 52-year-old Mavis Christian Jr., and said that preliminary information suggests that the shootings were connected to domestic violence. Officials also said that he fled the scene in a white Chevrolet Malibu.
Police said Sunday that Christian was found in the car matching the description of the one he reportedly fled the first home in, "suffering from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound." He was pronounced dead at the scene.
