An 18-year-old driver is facing five counts of attempted murder for allegedly driving into five Chicago police officers over the Memorial Day weekend. 

The incident occurred during a chaotic "teen takeover" event. Police say Rashad Johnson of Plainfield struck a group of officers who were trying to control hundreds of teens who gathered in an area of Chicago's West Side. 

After hitting the officers, according to police, the driver jumped the curb and crashed into a police car, fence and pole. Police arrested Johnson early Sunday morning, the New York Post reported. 

All five officers were treated at local hospitals and are in good condition. 

"Teen takeovers" are a viral social-media trend that escalated across the country over the weekend. The teens in Chicago shut down roads as police struggled to maintain control of the crowds. 

President Donald Trump appeared to comment on the incident on Monday. "Teen takeover in Chicago. Five officers badly hurt. Mayor and Governor are terrible. Should call for help!" Trump said in a post on Truth Social. 

In addition to the attempted murder charges, Johnson was charged with five counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a deadly weapon, and criminal damage to government property. 

The so-called teen takeovers have also recently occurred in Washington, D.C., and in a Delaware and a New Jersey beach town.
