Three Minnesota first responders, including 2 police officers, fatally shot
"They were doing their jobs. They were protecting our community," Sen. Amy Klobuchar said about the officers who were shot.
Two police officers and a paramedic were fatally shot Sunday morning while responding to an incident in Burnsville, Minn., and the suspect authorities believe to be responsible for the shooting is also dead.
The victims are officers Paul Elmstrand, 27, and Matthew Ruge, 27, and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth, 40, according to local CBS affiliate WCCO.
At least one other officer was shot as well, according to Minnesota Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who said on X, formerly Twitter, that she and her husband are praying for the first responders and their families.
"Learned from police this morning that three officers have been shot in Burnsville. They were doing their jobs. They were protecting our community," she wrote.
The third officer is expected to survive.
Local reporter Marielle Mohs posted a photo on X showing that SWAT vehicle from the scene with what appears to be at least half a dozen bullet marks in the windshield.
Burnsville is located about 15 miles south of downtown Minneapolis. The suspect has not been identified.
