CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo pleaded no contest Tuesday to a charge of operating while intoxicated. 

He has also issued a statement on social media apologizing for the actions he took that led to his arrest in July.

Romo was arrested in July following a traffic stop as he was driving south on Interstate 43 in Wisconsin, according to the Associated Press.  Romo had his driving privileges revoked for six months, and he was ordered to complete an alcohol assessment program, according to Milwaukee County court records. 

He also must pay $843 and install an interlock device on any vehicle he owns, operates or registers in his name. That order will remain in effect for at least one year after he is issued a license. 

In his apology, Romo said multiple back surgeries ended his career and left him in constant pain. He became dependent on medication, he wrote, and when he tried to get off the medication, he became dependent on alcohol. 

"None of this is an excuse. These are my failures, and I take responsibility for them," Romo wrote. 

Following his arrest, CBS placed him on leave from his role as lead NFL analyst.
