South Africa Paralympian track star, convicted murderer Oscar Pistorius released from jail
Steenkamp's mother said that her family was the one serving the life sentence after it was announced that Pistorius was released.
Australia Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been freed on parole from a jail in South Africa after serving almost 11 years for killing girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
Authorities on Friday said Pistorius is currently "at home," according to the BBC.
Steenkamp's mother said that her family was the one serving the life sentence after it was announced that Pistorius was released.
In 2013, Pistorius shot Steenkamp multiple times through a door and later claimed that he had mistaken her for a burglar.
The double amputee was convicted of murder in 2015.
While Pistorius is out of prison, he has to follow strict rules under South African law until his sentence expires in 2029. He is not allowed to speak to the media, has only certain hours in the day he can be out of his house and he can't drink alcohol.
