President Donald Trump's would-be assassin, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was entirely silent after he was born on Sept. 20, 2003, and this odd characteristic would continue throughout his life. 

Crooks' father told investigators that when he was born, he did not scream and was always quiet, the New York Post reported, citing documents provided to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. 

The documents are part of his ongoing inquiry into the Trump assassination attempt on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania. They included FBI interviews with Crooks' father, Matthew. 

Matthew Crooks said he never really had a father-son bond with Thomas Crooks, and Thomas rarely displayed strong emotions or laughed, making him very difficult to read. Occasionally, Matthew Crooks said, his son would have outbursts, including one incident where he dumped an entire container of fish food into his sister's aquarium after an argument. 

Despite his undemonstrative demeanor, Matthew Crooks said, his son scored at 1400 on his first attempt at the SAT without studying. He later improved to a near-perfect 1500.
