Alec Baldwin says 'heart is broken' after firing prop gun that killed crew member in New Mexico
The sheriff's office says the investigation into the incident "remains open and active"
In his first public statement since discharging the weapon that fatally injured a crew member on the set of his new movie , Alec Baldwin said Friday his "heart is broken" over the incident Thursday that killed 42-year-old director of photography.
"There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours," the 63-year-old actor said. The film's director, Joel Souza, was also injured in the incident but has reportedly been discharged from the hospital.
It is currently unclear if charges will be filed in the death of Halyna Hutchins, according to New Mexico officials. After being questioned by authorities about the event, Baldwin was released without incident.
"We will look into all facts and evidence of the case with great discretion and have further information at a later time. Our thoughts are with all affected by this tragedy," Said New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies in a statement.
