'Blind Side' Tuohy family members push back against NFL star Michael Oher's claims
Sean Tuohy, Sr. said he is "devastated" by the news.
Sean Tuohy, Jr. whose family was the subject of the hit film "The Blind Side," is responding after former NFL player Michael Oher alleged that Tuohy's parents never really adopted him and only claimed to have done so in order to profit off the story.
Tuohy said Oher sent messages to family group texts in 2020 and 2021 with statements such as "'If you guys give me this much, then I won’t go public with things,'" he said Monday on Barstool Radio.
Sean Tuohy, Sr. also responded Monday by telling The Daily Memphian that he is "devastated" by the development.
"It’s upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we’re going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16," he said, according to Fox News.
He also said that the family contacted lawyers at the time "who had told us that we couldn’t adopt over the age of 18," and "The only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship."
The elder Tuohy also said that everyone "got an equal share, including Michael" in the profits from "The Blind Side."
Their responses come after court records filed by Oher state that Oher's adoption was a "lie" and that "Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves" at Oher's "expense."
