Former National Football League Cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead on Monday at the age of 35.
Authorities responded to a medical emergency at his home, the Associated Press reported. No cause of death has been identified as of press time and a police investigation is ongoing.
Davis's career in the NFL spanned more than 10 seasons and saw him play for the Miami Dolphins, the Indianapolis Colts, and briefly for the Buffalo Bills. He played a total of 121 games and accumulated 395 tackles, 22 interceptions, and 97 defensed passes throughout his tenure.
"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Vontae Davis. We are thinking of his friends, family, and loved ones during this difficult time," the Bill posted on X.
"We are devastated to hear of Vontae Davis’s passing. He will be deeply missed, and we send our prayers to his family and loved ones," the Colts said in a statement.
"We are heartbroken by the sudden passing of former Dolphins CB Vontae Davis and extend our deepest condolences to his family & loved ones during this difficult time," said the Dolphins.
Davis's career with the NFL ended abruptly in 2018, when he unexpectedly retired during the middle of his second game with the Bills.
