More than 2.3 million American traveled for Thanksgiving, TSA says

Transportation security officers screened over 2.3 million air travelers on the day before Thanksgiving, marking the highest travel volume since the “low point” of the COVID-19 pandemic, officials announced on Thursday.

“@TSA officers screened 2,311,978 people nationwide yesterday, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, making it the highest checkpoint volume since the low point of the pandemic, which was on April 13, 2020, when only 87,534 people were screened nationwide. #MaskUp,” tweeted Lisa Farbstein, spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration.

Last year during the holidays, fewer Americans traveled amid a rise in COVID cases, and vaccines were not yet available for the general public.

About 70% of the U.S. population reportedly is at least partially vaccinated, with 59% of Americans being fully vaccinated.
