The Ronald Reagan biopic "Reagan," which stars Dennis Quaid as the former president, is set to return to American movie theaters for a limited run over the July 4 weekend and a longer run in September, according to a Deadline report on Wednesday.

The movie's return is part of the nation's 250th birthday celebration. The film initially premiered in August of 2024 and tied with Wild Robot as the most popular movie of the year among audiences, earning a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter.

The plans for the film's re-release are for the movie to be available for limited group screenings in more than a dozen cities on July 4, and then a wider release to approximately 600 theaters in September. 

The new run will include an additional 10 minutes of unreleased footage, which are expected to show moments between Reagan and his wife Nancy, played by Penelope Ann Miller, in the Oval Office and a scene between Reagan and his alcoholic father, Jack.

“One of the hardest things about directing a feature film is leaving behind incredible moments on the cutting room floor," director Sean McNamara told Deadline. "I’m so happy to have some of my favorite scenes back in the film for audiences to experience them for the first time.”

The film had a worldwide gross of more than $30 million in its initial run, according to Box Office Mojo.
