Taylor Swift's re-recorded album becomes U.S. No. 1 best-seller for 2023
The recording surpassed first-week sales of the original 2014 album.
Taylor Swift's "1989 (Taylor's Version)" album, a recording of her 2014 album "1989," made it to become this year's top-selling album in the U.S. less than a week after it was released.
Swift's latest album topped the Billboard 200, as well as the charts for streaming and vinyl, according to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.
With more than 1.6 million units sold in the U.S. and 3.5 million globally, Swift is now the first artist to have six No. 1 album debuts with more than 1 million units sold in history.
The recording also surpassed first-week sales of the original 2014 album.
The new album includes all of the same songs from the original, as well as five new tracks, titled, "Is It Over Now?," "Now That We Don’t Talk," "Say Don’t Go," "Suburban Legends" and "Slut!"
Original tracks on "1989" included the hit songs "Bad Blood," "Blank Space," and "Shake It Off."
