Ted Cruz lays out three steps to fight cultural marxism: transparency, change the ledger, influence
"The Marxists will always accuse you of doing what they're doing," Cruz said.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, says that there are three ways to combat cultural marxism that has taken over American institutions: transparency, changing the ledger and investing in transmission of ideas.
"I lay out three different buckets of tools we can use to fight to take these institutions back," Cruz said on the Thursday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show. "Number one is sunlight and transparency, because the ideas of the radical left are wildly unpopular. When you expose them, the people reject them."
Cruz recently published a book titled "Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America." The book goes into detail about steps conservatives can take to win America back from leftist ideologies.
"Number two is changing the cost benefit analysis to increase the costs for an individual to go woke.... for an institution to go woke," he continued. "Changing the ledger.... and that's been very successful. You look at, for example, what happened with Disney and Bud Light."
Bud Light sales plummeted after the brand partnered with transgender TikTok influencer Dylan Mulvaney for a marketing campaign. Sales dropped 24.4% in a four-week period ending June 3, accounting for 7.3% of total American beer sales, and Bud Light's parent Anheuser-Busch’s stock lost $27 billion in market capital since the campaign, according to The New York Post.
Florida GOP governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis got into a spat with Disney after he removed the company's self-governing privileges.
Disney snubbed DeSantis last year when he signed a law in 2022 that his opponents labeled the "Don't Say Gay Bill." The bill that was signed into law bans discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in public school classrooms from grades kindergarten through third. Supporters of HB1557 supported it because they believed it gave parents more of a say in their child's education. The bill never included instructions to not use the word "gay" and the word "gay" is nowhere in the text of the bill.
"The third strategy I suggest is for conservatives and libertarians with resources... people who've done well in business, to invest in the origins of transmission of ideas," Cruz said. "Buy a TV station. Buy a radio station. Buy a movie studio. Buy a book publishing house. Buy a record label."
He added that Tesla CEO purchasing the social media platform X, formerly called Twitter, was one of the most important victories for free speech in a long time.
Cruz went on to discuss the rampant politicization of federal agencies such as the FBI and DOJ, calling the institutions under President Joe Biden, "the most partisan and political."
"The Marxists will always accuse you of doing what they're doing," Cruz said. "So right now, the Democrats' favorite talking point is they're 'defending democracy,'" he said. "The purpose of these indictments [against former President Donald Trump] is to undermine and destroy democracy."
Trump is facing four indictments that include conspiracy to defraud and conspiracy against rights. Trump has denied the allegations and said what is happening is "election interference."
"The reason the Democrats are weaponizing the legal system is they're terrified that the voters in November will vote for Donald Trump instead of continuing their abusive policies, and so they're trying to take that away from the voters," Cruz said.
