Tiger Woods withdraws before finishing 3rd Masters round
The five-time champion had limped through practice rounds earlier in the week and again during the first and second rounds, but as the weather worsened, his injury became more pronounced.
Tiger Woods withdrew from the Masters before completing the third round Sunday, ending his streak of finishing all 72 holes of every tournament he has played as a professional golfer at Augusta National.
Woods said on Twitter that he is "disappointed" he had to withdraw due to his plantar fasciitis, a condition that involves tissue inflammation near the heel of the foot.
"Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!" Woods, 47, tweeted after withdrawing.
Woods, who is also still suffering from the effects of a 2021 car accident, withdrew with an injury about 90 minutes before the tournament was set to resume, the tournament said, according to The Associated Press.
