U.S. women's soccer team ousted from World Cup, ending dynastic run
The U.S. had dominated most of the match before being beaten by Sweden.
The United States is out of the FIFA Women's World Cup after losing to Sweden 5-4 in a penalty shootout Sunday.
The U.S. was attempting to win an unprecedented third consecutive title but was kicked out in the round of 16 for the first time in the soccer team's history, according to The Associated Press. Prior to this, the worst finish for the U.S. was third place, which it achieved three times.
The U.S. had dominated most of the match before being beaten by Sweden.
The match Sunday was the first at this World Cup to go into overtime.
Sweden will go on to face Japan in the quarter-finals, CNN reported.
